Valle Nuevo is a plateau more than 2,200 meters up; its highest point, Alto de la Bandera, reaches 2,842. It has been a protected area since 1961 and a national park since 1996.
Highway 41 runs 90 km between Constanza and San José de Ocoa. You go in from the north, about 15 km from Constanza, or from the south, from Ocoa.
