If you take the guagua from the town of Samaná, it's an hour on the road between coconut palms and open fields.
Las Galeras is a fishing village on the bay of Rincón, between Cabo Cabrón and Cabo Samaná. It has been a municipal district since 2005.
Its name comes from two galleys that anchored here in the mid-16th century. Today about 7,500 people live here, from tourism, fishing and farming.

Boats leave Las Galeras for Playa Rincón, Playa Frontón and Playa Madama: white sand and rocky coast.
Frontón sits at the foot of a cliff about 90 meters high, and you only get there by boat or on foot. There's coral and sea urchins: wear water shoes and don't step on the reef.
There are dive schools in the village, and between January and April humpback whales pass off the coast.
