You leave the Zona Colonial and drive 162 km, about 3 h 11 min, to the Sierra de Samaná. The falls are near the village of El Limón, on the road to Las Terrenas.
It's inside the Monumento Natural Salto El Limón, a 16.48 km² protected area created by Law 202-04 and Decree 571-09.
The excursions leave from the paradas, stops where local farmers wait to guide visitors. There's more than one: El Café, La Manzana and La Javilla are some of them.
Several serve lunch and sell products like cacao and coffee.
From there it's about 2.5 km through the forest. You do it on foot, if you're in good shape, or on horseback, and the price changes depending on which you choose.
