You leave the Zona Colonial and drive 132 km, about 1 h 51 min, to Bayahíbe. From there you cross the Catuano channel by boat or catamaran.
The island covers about 110 km² and is part of Parque Nacional Cotubanamá.
About 500 people live on the island, and nearly all of them make a living from fishing.
They're split between Mano Juan, a village of wooden houses founded in 1944, and Catuano, where there's a naval post.
In the natural pool, the water barely comes up to a meter.
Most tours stop at a natural pool about 400 meters from shore. There the water is barely a meter deep.
In these waters, 40 species of fish, 10 of coral and 124 of mollusks have been counted. Sea turtles and dolphins pass through too.
It's one of the most visited places in the country: between 2,000 and 2,500 people arrive every day.
