The cave is in San Pedro de Macorís province, on the road toward La Romana, near the Soco and Cumayasa rivers.
The cave is the heart of Parque Nacional Cueva de las Maravillas, 4.5 km², declared on July 22, 1997.
Professor Francisco Richiez Acevedo gave it its name in 1949.
