You leave the Zona Colonial and drive 132 km, about 1 h 51 min, heading east. Bayahíbe is about 16 km east of La Romana.
Juan Brito and his family, who came from Puerto Rico, founded it in 1874 as a fishing village. After 1990, tourism kept gaining ground.
Today it's a municipal district of San Rafael del Yuma, in La Altagracia. In 2022 it had 5,618 residents.
Bayahíbe is the closest town to Parque Nacional Cotubanamá, which was called Parque Nacional del Este until 2014.
Boats leave from here for Isla Saona and the other parts of the park.

There are more than 20 official dive sites. The area has three shipwrecks, among them the Atlantic Princess and the St. George, and a living museum of underwater archaeology.
You have two beaches: Bayahíbe beach, near the center, and Dominicus, where the big hotels are.
The rosa de Bayahíbe grows around here, an endemic cactus that has leaves and is threatened by habitat loss.
