Baní is the capital of Peravia province, 5 km from the Caribbean Sea. It was founded on March 3, 1764, and Máximo Gómez was born here.
Since 2005 Baní has held the title of Mango Capital. The banilejo mango is the best known and most exported in the country, and Peravia is the province that grows the most mangoes.
The Feria del Mango held its 22nd edition in 2026, from June 3 to 7, with more than 300 native varieties.
