You leave the Zona Colonial and drive 229 km, about 3 h 43 min, to the southwest of the country, between Neiba and La Descubierta.
Lago Enriquillo is the largest lake in the Caribbean, and its surface lies below sea level. Its water is salty, and it sits in the driest region of the country.
The park entrance is at La Azufrada, a bathing spot with sulfurous waters 3 km east of La Descubierta.
You cross to Isla Cabritos by boat. The island has a visitor center and three trails: one goes to the Caimanera Sur to see crocodiles, another crosses the dry forest and the fossil reefs, and the third is for seeing iguanas.

The lake has the largest population of American crocodiles in the Caribbean. Rhinoceros iguanas and Ricord's iguanas live here too, along with flocks of flamingos.
The park also holds the Las Caritas petroglyphs.
The lake, between Independencia and Bahoruco provinces, is part of Parque Nacional Lago Enriquillo e Isla Cabritos.
The park is inside the Reserva de Biosfera Jaragua-Bahoruco-Enriquillo.
